Shehbaz Demands Parliamentary Committee To Probe Motorway Incident, Appointment Of Questionable Official To CCPO Post
PMLN President and National Assembly Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif has demanded that a parliamentary committee be created to investigate the delay in response to the motorway rape by the relevant departments, the appointment of an official of known bad repute to a high office of CCPO and his egregious rape victim-blaming.
In his speech in the National Assembly Shehbaz said, Imran Khan’s criminal silence and his government’s gross mishandling of the heart wrenching incident has brought shame to Pakistan in the entire world. He said the Prime Minister of the country has been missing in action and could not utter a single word even of condemnation over this horrific incident. He said this isn’t the first of the last time that Imran Niazi had disappeared when the nation needed the Prime Minister the most.
Shehbaz lashed out at the criminal negligence of not appointing the motorway like at the Sialkot sector despite requests and demanded that those responsible for this should be punished. He also expressed outrage over the extensive delay in response to incident due to different departments trying to avoid responsibility over jurisdiction issues. He said the priority should have been to respond pronto instead of procrastination.
The Opposition Leader slammed CCPO Umar Sheikh’s victim blaming remarks and said it is utterly shameful that government officials stood by the victim-blaming CCPO instead of the traumatised victim. He pointed out that PTI government appointed a man of known bad rapporteur and questionable character to the important position of CCPO provincial metropolis Lahore, only to fulfil their desires of using him for political victimisation against PMLN. But he said, God Almighty has blown the lid off this act of the government by exposing the CCPO within no time.
The PMLN President said he does not seek self promotion but it is a fact that the state-of-the-art Forensic Lab made by him made it possible to identify and trace the culprits. But the irresponsible media fiasco and information revealing of the incompetent PTI government and its Minister’s made it possible for the culprit to elope.
Shehbaz thanked God Almighty that the perpetrator had been finally apprehended. He reminded the house how PTI and Imran Niazi politicised viciously the Zainab case during PMLN government. But he said the entire opposition played the most constructive role in this time and did not exploit this motorway incident one bit for political point scoring. He said the opposition understands the gravity of this situation and stands with the victim and the nation.
Shehbaz also condemned the incident with a 5 year old in Sindh and said the opposition would continue to play its constructive role. He warned that unless the government stops taking every decision of every department with a motive of persecuting and victimising the opposition, ripping meritocracy to shreds and appointing the worst and the most incompetent people to highest posts, such incidents would not stop. The country and its people cannot be safe under and incompetent government and its incompetent appointees, he said.
The PMLN President said Imran Niazi and his government has failed the country in every domain, from economy, to foreign policy, to disaster management and worst of all in maintaining law and order and ensuring the protection and security of the public life, property and dignity.
