Former Prime Minister and PMLN Central Leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi says NAB’s 28 May arrest warrant for Shehbaz before investigating proves malintent and when National institutions act on malintent they make the country hollow at its core.
Talking to media, Shahid said the NAB Chairman is the only person that can sign an arrest warrant like this and the fact that he tried to dodge and trick Shehbaz to arrest him shoes that the Chairman NAB’s neutrality is compromised and he is acting as a tool of the vengeful government maybe because he is being blackmailed.
Shahid said this desperate hunt to arrest Shehbaz was to keep him from speaking at the budget session to expose how bad this government has destroyed the economy 9f Pakistan. He said from Saaf Pani, Ashiyaana Scheme, Multan Metro, DFID and countless other fictitious cases, over 130 days in custody and unlimited interrogations the government has failed to find a penny of corruption which is why they have resorted to the oldest refuge of political victimisation, the asset beyond means case.
There is another proven case of asset beyond means. NAB Chairman needs to note down an address, House Number 2,Lane Number 1 line, Zaman Park Lahore. The NAB needs to investigate how a person of modest means, paying only 100 thousand rupees in tax, managed to build that house within his known means. Proofs of sugar corruption, wheat corruption, medicine import corruption, foreign funding and 23 undeclared accounts have all been presented. If this NAB Is about accountability, why have none of these proofs even mandated a serious investigation and interrogation.
He said the people of Pakistan are dying by the dozens and the government’s response is persecution and witch-hunt of Shehbaz Sharif. He said if the solution of all of Pakistan’s problems is imprisonment of PMLN leaders they are willing to make that sacrifice, but sadly that is not how such major challenges are overcome.
Responding to a question regarding Nawaz Sharif’s picture, he said Nawaz has been acting on the advice of his doctors which includes regular walk and occasional open strolling. The fact that this government’s ministers spent 2 hours debating over that picture gives an idea of the priorities of this administration, he said.
Ahsan Iqbal said the government had destroyed the country’s economy and is now using coronavirus as a cover-up scapegoat for those blunders. He said the industry, the exports, the CPEC and domestic growth had all stopped because of the incompetence of this regime way before coronavirus outbreak. This is why the government is prepping up the worst budget in the history of the country and wants to gag the opposition leader from speaking against it.
