Marriyum Slams Historic Political Victimization Under PTI Rule

LAHORE: Central leader of Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) and former Federal Minister of Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has said that the leadership of Muslim League (N) was subjected to the worst political revenge and victimization during the tenure of Chairman PTI.

In a press conference held at the party secretariat in Model Town Lahore, flanked by PMLN Punjab Information Secretary Azma Bukhari, Marriyum Aurangzeb began by stating, “The leadership of Muslim League (N) was subjected to the worst political revenge and victimization during the tenure of Chairman PTI.” She emphasized that baseless cases were fabricated against the Sharif family and the leadership and workers of Muslim League (N), who were now being exonerated through true justice.

Highlighting the economic challenges faced by the country, Ms. Aurangzeb attributed unemployment and the economic crisis to the failure of the government brought into power in 2018. She underscored the detrimental impact on economic development since the imposition of the Chairman PTI, stating, “When Chairman PTI was imposed on Pakistan in 2018, the wheel of economic development came to a grinding halt, and the entire nation suffered the consequences.”

Marriyum further detailed the unjust summoning and arrests of Shehbaz Sharif in various cases, including the clean water case and the Ashiana housing case. She remarked on the false cases fabricated against PMLN leaders and the subsequent court decisions vindicating their innocence, stating, “Today, the courts are confirming that there was no corruption, only victimization.”

Responding to questions about accusations of PMLN being favored by Pakistani courts, Ms. Aurangzeb asserted, “The leadership of Muslim League (N) was being acquitted by the court decisions over false cases concocted for political vengeance; truth and justice are now flourishing, so how could this be classified as favoritism?”

Turning her attention to the Panama case and the subsequent false cases manufactured against PMLN leaders, she said, “Nawaz Sharif was not punished in the Panama case or for not taking a salary from his son; it was done only to create a perception and to disqualify him for life.”

Marriyum questioned the whereabouts of individuals who played roles in attacks against PMLN leaders during the PTI era. She highlighted incidents of blackmail against the Chairman NAB and unjust harassment of PMLN leaders, workers, and members of the Sharif family. She recalled how Chairman NAB was blackmailed on the issue of Tayyaba Gul, NAB was used to raid and attack PMLN leaders, workers, and members of the Sharif family.During the PTI era, Shahzad Akbar attacked the houses of the Muslim League (N) workers, they were harassed unjustly, where is that person today? said that in the previous government, billions were usurped from the public treasury, it was being said that Ahad Cheema had hired front men, it was said that there was corruption in 56 companies, where did that corruption go?
In the case of Saad Rafiq, the Supreme Court itself said that those were fake cases, which were based on false information. Where are those faces today?, she asked. The former federal minister said that she was also facing one of such fake cases in the terrorism court. We are facing cases, we know that there are false cases against us. Where are those who used to accuse and allege cases against us standing next to the PTI chairman?, she inquired.

Shahbaz Sharif said many times in clear words that if corruption of even one rupee was proven against him, he would quit politics. Had there been any corruption, no one would have said like Shehbaz Sharif did, “Hold me accountable,” But when corruption is actually involved, incidents like May 9 are planned and carried out to keep it hidden. She said today there is inflation in the country, who should be held accountable? Who should be answerable for the situation today? She said that Chairman PTI usurped GBP 190 million, virtually ate up the entire Tosha Khana, but never was he ever held answerable for his actions. When Chairman PTI was asked to account for Tosha Khana, he attacked national institutions installations, desecrated monuments, and threatened judges to avoid accountability.

In closing, She addressed the current state of inflation in the country and the accountability of those responsible. She raised questions about the actions of Chairman PTI in relation to Tosha Khana, emphasizing the need for accountability in light of the challenges faced by the nation. She said former President and PPP Leader Asif Zardari has said that he is seeing the elections being transparent, and he has expressed confidence that the Election Commission will be successful in conducting transparent elections.
