PMLN Slams PTI’s False Propaganda Over Shehbaz’s Absence, Budget Voting

ISLAMABAD: PMLN Secretary Information Marriyum Aurangzeb has said that party President and National Assembly Opposition Leader Shahbaz Sharif could not attend the National Assembly session due to the death of his cousin and cousin Mian Tariq Shafi due to funeral and funeral rites in Lahore.

Taking to twitter, she said all those concerned about the reasons for his absence may extend their condolences now.

Marriyim said the fact is that despite all the members of the opposition being present, the budget could not be prevented from being passed. The budget was approved by 172 votes. After the absence of Akhtar Mengal and Jamaat E Islami’s , the total opposition votes were 162 whicu wouldnhave had no effect on the finance bill. Cheap political rhetoric is a futile exercise.

The opposition’s job is to point out the flaws and shortcomings of the budget points. This is the first budget in history in which significant changes have taken place at the behest of the opposition and the government has had to take so many u-turns over tge proposed budget. More than 35 amendments were made in the 15 clauses proposed by the opposition in the Finance Bill.

Because of this there is a massive difference between the budget presented on June 12 and the budget approved on June 29. Opposition played its constitutional role in the best interest of the people, political rhetoric cannot change this reality, she said.
