Shehbaz Tells Court He Saved $107MN In Lahore Solid Waste Management
LAHORE: PMLN President and National Assembly Opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif while expressing concern over the terrible state of waste manage and garbage collection in Lahore has said that he saved the nation $ 107 million dollars while ensuring seamless operations of waste collection, transportation, disposal and management in the provincial capital.
Speaking in the NAB court, Shehbaz said his he gets newspapers in jail through which he had learned about Waste Management Company in Lahore and the heaps of trash littering Lahore which was a city of flowers and exemplary cleanliness under his governance.
Shehbaz reminded the court and all those in attendance how he Waste Management Company contract was settled for $420 million through proper legal means and requirements of PPRA rules, however he went the extra mile to save the country’s money.
Shehbaz said after the tender was won he immediately told the Turkish administration that we give examples of Pak-Turkish friendship, he said he told the Turkish company what we had sacrificed for Turkey and that Pakistan’s relations with Turkey run deep. Shehbaz said he told the company that he was not negotiating but talking to them on the basis of brotherhood. He said the meeting last three hours and by the grace of God Almighty, at midnight the agreement with the Turkish company was signed under which the $ 420 million contract was awarded for $ 320 only, that saved the country $107 million.
Shehbaz said he has great respect for Turkey, he gave the best contract to clean Lahore and saved billions of rupees for the nation.
Answering a question from the judge regarding the gift given by Shehbaz Sharif to the Turkish, he said if he gave a gift worth $ 120 and got a discount of $ 107 million for the country, it was not a bad deal.
Shehbaz also told the judge that his medical board by the government had still not shared his medical reports with him. He requested the court to expedite this as it directly concerns his wellbeing.
