Ahsan Slams Shehbaz Gill’s CPEC Corruption Allegations

ISLAMABAD: PMLN Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal says the government’s spokespersons must apologise to the Chinese government and to him for leveling unfounded and false corruption allegations on CPEC projects.

At a press conference in Islamabad, Ahsan slammed Shehbaz Gill’s statements over CPEC and said the way this government has been defiling and demonising the CPEC project right from the day it was imposed in Pakistan, it seems Imran Niazi came was brought into power for tge deliberate purpose of making CPEC controversial. He said the China Pakistan Economic Corridor was a lifeline for Pakistan’s economy at a time when no one in the world was willing to invest a single dollar in Pakistan.

He said mega projects like Portugal Qasim, Multan Sukkur Highway, Hydel Projects, Havelian and Thakot Highway and motorway, Gawadar port projects and Thar Coal which had been impossible for Pakistan to exploit for past 7 decades were made possible With Chinese investment.

“If this incompetent and blunderous government does not have the courtesy of thanking the Chinese government for all this, they should at least refrain from accusing them of corruption. They are not just jeopardising the CPEC but are jeopardising the future of Pakistan”, he said.

Ahsan said he testifies that all CPEC projects were carried out with utmost transparency and were jointly monitored by Pakistan and China. He pointed out that all payments were made by China directly and not by the government of Pakistan. So if these Rs 137 billion of corruption is being alleged in a Rs 315 billion worth of project it isn’t a minor allegation, he said. He condemned the allegations and requested the Chinese government to clarify over these allegations.
