PDM Elects Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman As President
Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has elected JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman as its first President.
PMLN Quaid Nawaz Sharif proposed the band and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari endorsed Fazl-ur-Rehman.
PMLN Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal said the duration for the rotation of PDM Presidency, other central and provincial leaders will be done by PDM Steering Committee in a meeting on 5th October. All parties of the PDM expressed complete confidence in Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman.
He said the Steering Committee will also finalise the programme for PDMs movement. All Parties will hold their public meetings from the platform of PDM. The meeting also approved two resolutions.
He said PDM movement is for supremacy of constitution, democracy, judiciary and for the security of the rights of Pakistanis. The resolution said the government’s statement linking PDM to India is a proof of the frustration of this government. It condemned the allegations of being antistate on a three-time Prime Minister who announced the country as a nuclear power.
The resolution said the vision of Quid-e-Azam vision supremacy and rule of the people by the people is the objective of PDM. It strongly condemned the arrest of PMLN President and National Assembly Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif. It ruled that the arrest of opposition leaders is a attempt to rig the Gilgit-Baltistan elections. But it said these tactics won’t stop the PDM movement.
It pointed out that the people crushed under this government-created inflation, unemployment and heavy taxation want to get rid of this administration.
The PMLN Quaid Nawaz Sharif, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman attended the meeting via video link.
Dr Abdul Malik, Sardar Akhtar Mengal, Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, Amir Haider Hoti, Professor Sajid Mir, Awais Noorani and Ahsan Iqbal were present.
Former Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Sherry Rehman, Marriyum Aurangzeb and Mohsin Dawar attended the meeting.
