110 Million Females of Pakistan Insecure As Long As Rape-victim Shaming and Blaming CCPO, Others In Office – Marriyum
Remarks of CCPO, His Defence By Ministers, Silence of Imran, Buzdar, Encourage & Embolden Rapists – Marriyum
PMLN Secretary Information Marriyum Aurangzeb has demanded immediate firing of CCPO Lahore, addition of terrorism clause in the case, a judicial inquiry of the horrendous incident and the strongest possible punishment for the culprits and the CCPO who is guilty of rape-victim shaming.
Talking to media, visibly outraged by the atrocious incident of gang-rape of a woman in front of her children, Marriyum said there are no words to describe this tragedy. But she said even more disastrous still was the fact that the state disowned her at the time of the incident and later resorted to blaming her for what happened.
“When the violated woman reached out to the motorway police, she was told to contact the district police over jurisdiction issues, who later told her to get in touch with FWO. Imagine the helplessness, imagine the trauma, imagine the lack of sense of belonging of a woman of Islamic Republic of Pakistan over a complete abandonment by the state. Imagine the horror of her children who witnessed this unthinkable calamity” she said.
Marriyum lashed out at the CCPO Lahore for his irresponsible remarks over the incident and said he deserves a punishment as strict as that for rapists.
“The person responsible for the security of lives, honor and dignity of the people, the institutions responsible for our protection are busy blaming the victim and tacitly justifying the acts of the culprits and protecting them. The CCPO Lahore said he is puzzled why did a woman leave her home at such a late hour with her three children. The CCPO Lahore says he is puzzled why did the woman take the motorway and not the GT Road. The CCPO Lahore says he is puzzled why did she not check her patrol before leaving. The CCPO Lahore says he is puzzled why did the woman not take a driver along. The CCPO Lahore is not puzzled over the fact that Sialkot-Lahore motorway police has still not been appointed. The CCPO Lahore is not puzzled over the fact that a woman was gang-raped in front of her children. The CCPO Lahore is not puzzled over the fact that the gang-raped woman was made to run from pillar to post between departments over jurisdiction issues instead of coming to her help at once. The CCPO Lahore is not puzzled over the fact that for one whole hour, nobody showed up”, she lambasted.
The former Information Minister said the CCPO has clearly told the men to be the guardians of their mothers, sisters, daughters and wives because the state wont be. He has clearly pointed out that the sate is unable to fulfil its duty under article 9 of the constititionwhich gaurentees safety and security, she said.
Marriyum said, “This is the mindset guilty of rape-victim shaming that is blaming the raped woman. This statement of the CCPO is encouraging and emboldening the rapists and supporting their narrative. And on top of that that the entire state is silent, the entire government is silent and the Prime Minister Of Pakistan is silent and the Chief Minister of the Province is silent. The entire country knows the reason for this silence. The reason for this criminal silence is that the PTI government is in bed with this CCPO for helping them remove the last IG Police Punjab.”
She slammed the advisor to Interior Ministry for defending the CCPO’s unforgivable remarks and told the government minister to shut up their insensitive statements. Any statement by anyone, trivializing, victim-blaming or shaming would be unacceptable, she stressed.
Marriyum said the entire government and its entire cabinet is defending the CCPO instead of defending the victim.
“The CCPO later clarified that he meant that the victim had a mental orientation of a French national because her husband and family live in France. The CCPO said the woman thought she was still in France where there is writ of state, moral values and rule of law. This means that the CCPO said that she would have been safe in Franec but the 110 million women of Pakistan are unprotected. This means, in Pakistan right now, there is no writ of state, no moral values and no rule of law in Islamic Republic of Pakistan”, she slammed.
The PMLN Secretary Information said the CCPO is sending clear message to the 110 millionwomen in Pakistan that they will be responsible for being gang-raped if they leave their homes after sundown, because the state is paralyzed and dysfunctional. She said he should put up signs on all motorways telling women to stay away after sundown because the state cannot provide them security.
As long as this person is in charge of the safety and security, 110 million females of Pakistan are insecure because he represents the mindset of the rapists. These demands will not die down but will keep getting louder and louder until they are met, she concluded.
