PHILANTHROPISTS, industrialists and traders called on Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif here Tuesday and presented cheques for Rs30 million towards Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the IDPs of North Waziristan.
Cheques worth Rs11.8 million were presented on behalf of the assembly members of Gujrat, overseas Pakistanis and traders while industrialists, philanthropists and different persons of Lahore gave Rs10.5 million and traders and industrialists of Multan donated Rs4.5 million. Member Provincial Assembly from DG Khan Syed Abdul Aleem gave Rs1.25 million, MPA Bao Akhtar Ali Rs800,000, MPA Ch Shabbir Ahmed Rs500,000, MPA Ch Muhammad Ashraf Rs1.5 million, overseas Pakistanis Rs6.7 million, Ch Sajid Masood Rs1 million, Atif Jami Rs500,000, industrialist Iftikhar Haider Rs500,000 and medical stores owners from Gujrat Rs500,000.
The chief minister commended the spirit of help and assistance of the donors towards the distressed people of North Waziristan and said that on his appeal, well-to-do persons of different walks of life were donating generously for rehabilitation of the displaced families. He said the Punjab government had dispatched relief items and medicines worth millions of rupees to the displaced persons while fodder had also been sent for their livestock. He said financial help was being provided to the affected families by the Punjab government and the first instalment of Rs7,000 per family had been given. He said financial assistance of Rs350 million had so far been provided to displaced families. He announced that the process of distribution of second instalment of cash amount would soon be started and Rs7,000 per family would again be given. He directed Senior Member Board of Revenue to immediately distribute second instalment of cash assistance among the displaced persons. Shahbaz Sharif said the affected people of North Waziristan who were rendering sacrifices for peace and stability of the country were waiting for help and there was a need for every member of the society to come forward and play his role for providing relief to the distressed people.
anti-dengue steps: Shahbaz Sharif has directed to take steps on the emergent basis for eradication of dengue virus. According to a handout issued here Tuesday, the CM said that all departments, secretaries, commissioners and DCOs should ensure strict implementation of SOPs for eradication of dengue. He also asked the elected representatives to play their effective role for coping with dengue virus. He directed that all necessary resources should be utilised for controlling dengue.
