CM annoyed at slow pace of work at Metro Bus project

Wants redress of public complaints regarding the project

CHIEF Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed the authorities to further accelerate the pace of work on the Metro Bus Project, saying that completion of the project within the time frame must be ensured.

He said all the departments concerned should evolve a coordinated strategy in this regard and warned that no delay in the execution of the project would be tolerated.

Expressing extreme annoyance over slow pace of work by some departments, Shahbaz warned that all the impediments to the project must immediately be removed.

He was presiding over a meeting to review work on the bus project at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat here on Tuesday.

The chief minister said that provision of facilities to the masses was the objective of the Metro Bus Project and efforts should be made to avoid problems to the public during its execution. He said although the city traffic police had made good arrangements on all routes, however, alternative traffic arrangements should be made at the places about which public complaints had been received. He said all possible steps should be taken to facilitate the people at the route. He said that a public awareness campaign should be launched, in addition to shifting the poles of streetlights at the earliest.

The CM said that parking spaces should be made beside Metro Bus stations. He also issued instructions to the authorities regarding installation of escalators at the stations, along with completion of the remaining development work. He also ordered security arrangements on the whole route of Metro Bus Service.

He directed the Parks and Horticulture Authority DG to undertake beautiful landscaping along the route of the Metro Bus in accordance with the policy of the Punjab government. He further ordered to devise a strategy for outsourcing the Metro Bus stations.

Shahbaz Sharif said that a control room was being set up for Metro Bus Service from where the transport system would be controlled.

Lahore Transport Company Chairman Kh Ahmed Hasaan, MPA Mehr Ishtiaq Ahmed, Project Director PRTB Sibtain Fazal-e-Haleem, Commissioner Lahore Division, Director General LDA, Chief Traffic Officer besides officers of the departments concerned were present.
