Interior Minister directs FIA, Islamabad Police to improve performance

ISLAMABAD, Feb 8 (APP): Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Chaudhry, Nisar Ali Khan on Saturday directed the attached departments of Ministry to improve performance as per policy guidelines. He gave these direction while chairing a high level meeting of officers of Islamabad Police, FIA and NACTA. The meeting discussed various issues relating to policy guidelines and other administrative measures for improving performance of these departments.
The Interior Minister directed the Acting DG FIA to prepare a  policy vision for FIA in one week, in order to improve the performance of department.
He stressed the need to achieve the targets by setting certain time-frames.
In addition to this, he also emphasized on bringing swiftness in the process of investigation, especially regarding mega corruption cases.
In order to break from the past and make FIA as a frontline agency and a power house in fighting corruption, he ordered to prepare list of officers having bad reputation and then removing these officers form FIA.
The Minister mentioned that there has been no political interference in FIA since inception of this government and now it’s up to FIA to perform up to the satisfaction of people.
He also directed Acting DG to furnish a proposal to the Ministry regarding the pay package of FIA staff and to address the shortage of staff.
Expressing his displeasure on recent incident of entry of two foreign women in Pakistan through Islamabad Airport, the Minister said that immigration counter on airports reflect an image of a country and it would not be allowed anyone to tarnish the image of Pakistan.
He ordered to further strengthen the immigration cells working in entire country and directed to work on technological lines and intelligence in this regard.
In order to facilitate the passengers, he directed to further improve the performance of facilitation counters working on airports.
Reviewing the security situation in Islamabad, the Minister ordered IG Islamabad to strengthen the vigilance process on security check-points without making the residents suffer.
He directed that the working hours of the officials deputed on the security check-posts be strictly confined to eight hours.
In order to facilitate general public and easy flow of traffic, he directed to further improve the SOPs for smooth flow of traffic, especially during the VVIP movement.

Govt focused on transparency, speed & standard: Shahbaz

LAHORE, Feb 9 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said the PML-N government’s policy revolved around the maintenance of standard, transparency, and speedy completion of development schemes and promotion of a corruption-free culture in the province. The PML-N has spent billions of rupees on the development of the country and provision of basic amenities to the masses during the past five years, he said during a meeting with the parliamentarians who called on him here Sunday.
The Punjab Chief Minister said every penny of public was being spent on the welfare of the people.
He said that thousands of poor families had benefitted from the welfare projects and such schemes would continue in future, adding that public service is a worship and the PML-N has set new standards and honoured all promises with masses.
Shahbaz said that Punjab would be made a model province through honesty, hardwork and public service, saying metro bus projects will be started in Multan, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi.
With reference to the historic approbation of Lahore metro bus project home and abroad, Shahbaz Sharif said Lahore metro bus project is an excellent example of utilization of national resources for the people.
He said that modern infrastructure plays a key role in rapid economic activity, adding that a hefty sum of Rs 91 billion were being spent for infrastructure development. He said more than Rs 29 billion would be spent on the construction of new roads during the current fiscal year to lay a network of roads, bridges and underpasses in the province.
The Punjab Chief Minister said that billions of rupees are also being spent on the provision of infrastructure and facilities in Faisalabad, Multan, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and other major cities besides the provincial metropolis.
“Keeping upto its tradition of development projects for the less-developed areas like the Southern Punjab without consideration to the population ratio, PML-N is spending Rs. 93 billion on the uplift of Southern Punjab which is 32 percent of the provincial development budget”, Shahbaz said.
He said projects like mobile health units, Daanish schools and new hospitals have been started in south Punjab on priority basis. He said that process of provision of missing facilities in all schools of south Punjab will be completed during the current fiscal year.
He said that effective measures have been adopted for the development of industrial sector in the province and maximum resources are being utilized for the provision of energy to the industrial sector and ridding the people of load-shedding.
The elected representatives apprised the Chief Minister of the pace of development and welfare programmes in their respective constituencies.

President stresses promoting spirit of volunteerism in society

SLAMABAD, Feb 4 (APP): President Mamnoon Hussain on Tuesday stressed promoting the spirit of volunteerism in the society and lauded the services of Pakistan Red Crescent Society in helping the people in distress without any discrimination. Addressing the volunteers at the prize distribution ceremony of Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) held here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, the President said service to humanity is the noblest cause. The President, who is also the President of Pakistan Red Crescent Society said selflessness is the very spirit of volunteerism and when a person’s spirit and soul are volunteered to a particular task, the results achieved are phenomenal and exemplary.
He said that over the last several decades, the Red Cross and Red Cross Societies had provided assistance to millions of vulnerable people in the world.
He expressed satisfaction that the volunteers of PRCS had also contributed immensely during times of disasters, being the first to reach the scene of a disaster and the last to leave.
The President commended the role played by PRCS in flood relief and rehabilitation and in preventing outbreak of diseases in the wake of floods and earthquake.
He quoted a verse from the Holy Quran which says that “He who saves one life, is as though he has saved the entire humanity.” He said the life of Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) is an example for all who displayed the greatest patience even to his enemies.
President Mamnoon said service to humanity is preached in every religion and paid tribute to Henry Daunt, the great social activist for pioneering the idea of establishing an organization dedicated to alleviating the sufferings of people regardless of the considerations of national boundaries, race or religion.
He hoped that PRCS would continue training the volunteers in accordance with international standards enabling them to serve the country to the best of their abilities.
The President congratulated a volunteer Nazia Mazhar for winning the International Volunteering Development Award 2011 on her proposal ‘Healthy, Wealthy Pakistan’ and said the nation was proud of her success from among the 187 countries.
Chairman PRCS Major General (retired) Chaudhry Muhammad Nawaz Khan in his welcome address said the Society had over 220,000 highly committed volunteer base drawn from all segments of the society in the country’s 89 districts.
He said volunteerism is an impregnable strength of a nation and the PRCS volunteers had been trained with a spirit of enthusiasm in the service to humanity.
He mentioned that PRCS had the acceptability in even the no-go areas of Balochistan and FATA for its selfless relief work, disaster management and health care activities.
He said PRCS had actively contributed to the relief and rehabilitation work after the earthquake in 2005, floods in 2007, rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons, Ataabad landslide in 2010 and the flashfloods in Punjab, Sindh and KPK in 2010.

Meaningful dialogue with Taliban to ensure peace in country: President

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain expressed the hope on Monday that dialogue with Taliban would start soon as the entire nation was looking towards holding of successful and meaningful talks to ensure lasting peace and security in the country.

He was talking to Special Assistant to Prime Minister on National Affairs and Coordinator of peace dialogue committee, Irfan Siddiqui, who called on him here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

The President said as a member of peace dialogue committee, the government had entrusted Irfan Siddiqui with an assignment of great national importance.

He said peace and stability was the top most priority of the government and every possible effort would be taken to restore peace and normalcy in the country.

He said the socio-economic development of Pakistan and the progress and prosperity of its people were directly linked to the peace and security in its all parts.

President Mamnoon expressed confidence that the serious efforts of peace dialogue committee would prove instrumental in establishing enduring peace and security in the country.

Irfan Siddiqui assured that the committee would work with full dedication and commitment to hold result-oriented talks aimed at establishing durable peace in the country.

PM optimistic about peace talks with Taliban

LAHORE, Feb 3 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Monday expressed optimism about the outcome of peace talks with Taliban. “I will personally supervise the talks process while Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali will assist me,” said the prime minister while talking to mediamen at Alhamra Arts Council here after a meeting with senior journalists and columnists. He said,”It is my utmost desire that the committees fromed by the government and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan make a headway in the talks.” He said the government was preferring to resolve all issues through dialogue to save the country from fruther crises. Nawaz Sharif said the government wanted to settle all issues through dialogue with India, Afghanistan and other countries for durable peace in the region.
On the Balochistan issue, he said, “Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch will take all stakeholders on board for durable peace in the province in the larger interest of the country.”
He said he was confident that the Balochistan government would resolve all issues and his support and cooperation would always be with them.
Replying to a query, he said his government had inherited all problems from the previous regimes and was striving hard to resolve them by taking measures through comprehensive policies.
Answering another quetion, Nawaz Sharif said the national economy had improved remarkably owing to prudent policies and measures adopted by the government.
Earlier, the prime minster held a meeting with senior journalists, columnists and intellectuals, including Ataul Haq Qasmi, Mujeeb ur Rehman Shami, Rauf Kalasra, Najam Sethi, Ata ur Rehman, Masood Ashar, Sajid Mir and Sohail Warraich and discussed matters of national importance. (Courtesy: APP)
